Best Lawyers Australia 2023 Recognises Achievements of Lavan Lawyers

Lavan Welcomes Employment and Safety Partner Bruno Di Girolami

Lavan is very pleased to welcome partner Bruno Di Girolami, special counsel Sharon Payn and associate Anna Lee to our Employment, Safety & Education team.

In a complex and heavily regulated employment landscape, Bruno, Sharon and Anna are skilled in advising on emergent workplace issues including flexible workforces, vaccination strategies, discrimination and sexual misconduct, complex employment and safety litigation and COVID-19 restrictions on global mobility and migration.

Lavan’s Promotions and Appointments January 2022

Lavan is very pleased to announce our January 2022 promotions and the appointment of a number of lateral recruits to senior positions within Lavan.

Effective from 1 January 2022, we are delighted to announce Anka Burns’ promotion to partner in Lavan’s rapidly expanding Property & Leasing team.  Anka’s ability to provide pragmatic and commercial advice across all areas of property law, including for the most complicated and unusual property transactions, is of immense value to her loyal clients.

Garth Tinsley joins Lavan as Special Counsel, Pro Bono, in a newly created role dedicated to building a leading pro bono practice at Lavan.  Garth’s expertise in pro bono and corporate social responsibility has been built through his extensive experience in both the corporate and community legal sectors.

Lavan Welcomes Top Litigation & Dispute Resolution Talent

Lavan is delighted to announce the addition of a number of talented litigators to our Litigation & Dispute Resolution team. 

We welcome special counsels Millie Richmond-Scott (who began her career at Lavan) and Kristy Yeoh (from 15 November 2021), senior associate Mihali Palassis and associate James Barrett. They are all highly experienced litigators who are committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for their clients. They act on a wide variety of disputes across a range of sectors including Government, Energy & Resources, Property and Banking & Finance, amongst others.  
 
Also assisting Lavan’s litigation team is one of Western Australia’s most respected commercial litigators, Kevin Stewart. Kevin was a partner at Lavan from 2012 to 2014 and recently retired from full time legal practice. His private consultancy firm, Blackheart Consultants, will work with Lavan as an independent contractor to mentor Lavan's junior partners and younger lawyers aspiring to partnership. Kevin will also be an invaluable source of strategic advice to Lavan’s clients.

Speaking about his engagement by Lavan, Kevin said, "I am impressed by Lavan’s meaningful investment in talented young lawyers, their dedication to client service and their commitment to remaining a proudly independent Western Australian law firm. I look forward to working closely with the Lavan team and to providing strategic assistance to Lavan's clients to resolve complex legal matters."

Lavan’s Promotions and Appointments July 2021

Lavan is delighted to announce our most recent promotions and appointments.

The well-deserved promotions of Jennifer Tropiano to special counsel in Property, Mary Roseingrave to senior associate in Family Law and Tegan Chick to associate in Litigation are a reflection of their excellent legal skills, dedication to client service, leadership and teamwork.

We are also very pleased to welcome special counsel Mark Hyde and senior associate Mandee de Reus to our Reconstruction, Recovery & Insolvency team, senior associate Ching Yee Tan (who returns to Lavan after a stint in London) to our Property team and associate Mareli Treurnicht to our Corporate team.

Mark Hyde joins Lavan as special counsel in the Reconstruction, Recovery & Insolvency team. Mark is an experienced insolvency, reconstruction and commercial litigation lawyer having acted for major Australian financial institutions, administrators, liquidators, receivers, company directors and a broad range of corporate clients.

Jennifer Tropiano is promoted to special counsel. Since joining Lavan in 2018, Jennifer has been an integral part of our property team. She specialises in high value acquisitions and disposals and her experience extends to managing complex commercial leasing matters, completing large scale property due diligence and settlements, acting on hotel management agreements and acquisitions and a range of general property advice.

Mandee de Reus has joined our Reconstruction, Recovery & Insolvency team as a senior associate. Mandee advises clients in respect of corporate and personal insolvency matters. She is an experienced advocate having represented clients in the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia as well as Western Australian State Courts and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Mary Roseingrave is promoted to senior associate in our Family team. Mary provides advice and legal representation to clients in all aspects of family law including financial and child related matters, binding child support agreements, divorce applications, family violence restraining orders and adoptions. Mary is a committed, efficient and highly skilled lawyer and clients and colleagues benefit from her dedicated approach.

Returning to Lavan after a stint at a top US law firm in London, Ching Yee Tan rejoins our Property team as a senior associate. Ching Yee practises in all areas of commercial property including acquisitions, disposals, subdivisions, leases and general commercial matters relating to land transactions. Ching Yee specialises in strata development and is experienced in all stages of strata subdivision.

Tegan Chick is promoted to associate in Lavan's Litigation and Dispute Resolution team. Having been with the firm since 2015, Tegan has been actively involved in the fabric of life at Lavan and has gained experience across a number of our practice areas.

Mareli Treurnicht joins Lavan as an associate in our Corporate team. As a South African qualified attorney with over 11 years' experience in top tier commercial law firms, Mareli is an excellent addition to our team. Mareli's experience includes high value corporate and commercial transactions, commercial litigation, corporate tax (including tax litigation) and energy matters.
