Overview of decisions granted October to December 2009

The licensing authority granted 12 new liquor licences between October and December 2009 being:

  • three liquor store licences (in Peppermint Grove, Morley and Ballajura);
  • five small bar licences (in Mt Lawley, Albany, Halls Head, Leederville and Perth);
  • two tavern licences (in Beechboro and South Yunderup);
  • one restaurant licence (in Swanbourne); and
  • one special facility licence (in Kalbarri).

Six extended trading permits (ETP) for Sunday trading for liquor stores in the non-metropolitan areas of Mandurah, Albany, Denmark, Kendenup, Witchcliffe and Dunsborough were also approved.

The number of grants (particularly of liquor stores and ETPs) reflects a marked change to the licensing application process under the current legislation.  Objections by existing licensees as to need or requirement is no longer a relevant consideration.  All objections must now relate to matters of public interest.

In addition to these various grants, two prohibition orders were made by the authority.  Prohibition orders prevent the person named in the order from entering any licensed premises for a period of five years.
